Containers-of-hope

Architect Benjamin Garcia Saxe’s latest project ‘Containers of Hope’ is a residential development, which seamlessly transforms two disused shipping containers into an attractive and affordable private home.

The result of a close collaboration between Saxe and his clients Gabriela Calvo and Marco Peralta who made a very bold choice of exploring the possibility of creating an inexpensive house made out of disregarded shipping containers.

Saxe helped design this simple, yet luxurious container home for their property outside of San Jose. Gabriela Calvo and Marco Peralta dreamed of spending time with their horses and enjoying the natural landscape, without going into debt building the home of their dreams.

The final cost of the house ($40,000USD) is lower than the cost of social housing provided for the poor in Costa Rica. Exposing the importance of design as a tool to provide beauty and comfort on a low budget in the 21st century.
